I LOVE Youtube!
I go to the site at least 4 times a week. I have posted material on the site before, but I go their primarily to watch videos.
Until recently, I have never thought of it as anything other than entertainment. However, I have found it very useful to continue with my American Sign Language Skills. I was in an Interpreting program when I was worked at the University of Tennessee Knoxville. I found once I relocated to Clarksville that resources were not as available. Youtube to the rescue! There are many examples of instructional ASL videos posted. Some better than others. Due to my personal pursuit, I can definitely see how Youtube can be used in an educational setting.
In speaking to a friend who is an education major and theatre minor at another university, he states that as an educator he plans to use Youtube to assist his students in developing skills. He thinks it would be a great way for peers to critic performances and see personal improvement. I think that is a fabulous idea and it uses a forum that students are familiar with already.
Here is an example of a video I use to assist me with my ASL.
